#WIB – Q&A With Janine van Zyl Co-Founder Of QuantumLeap Practice Partners

1. Can you please tell us more about your business

A. QuantumLeap Practice Partners is a Healthcare Administration Company offering the following services to Specialist Medical Practices:

  • Boutique-style Virtual Medical Bureau that handles the accounts on behalf of Specialist Medical Practices.
  • Practical Practice Management training course
  • Selection and recruitment of medical administration staff
  • Expert advice and guidance to Specialist Doctors on all the important aspects they need to know when starting up a Private Practice.
2. When, how and why did you start your business?

A. QLPP officially started doing business in July 2019. It all started over a cup of coffee one Saturday morning with an ex-colleague of mine (who is now my Business Partner). We got chatting about our dream to start our own business one day and realised that we had the same vision/dream in mind. We identified a gap in the healthcare administration services environment to provide a unique and customisable service offering to Medical Specialists and their Practice Staff, and as they say, the rest is history.

3. What is your role in the business?

A. As the Co-founder I take care of the finances of the business, recruitment, and selection, general HR, social media, networking as well as providing daily guidance and advice into the general management and smooth running of the business. My Business Partner (Colleen Swart) is an amazing Sales and Marketing professional and hence focuses on the signing up of new clients, providing ongoing support and advice to new and existing clients, networking, as well as providing daily input into the general management and smooth running of the business.

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

 A. I studied Human Resources Management at the then Technicon of the Free State in Bloemfontein.

5. How did you finance your business?

A. We self-funded the business from our personal savings.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists.

A. There is no average workday, each day is unique, and we take on everything as it happens in the moment. Daily communication with the Team is vitally important to ensure the smooth running of the business.

7. How do you balance your home life and your work life?

A. As an entrepreneur, this is a challenge, and you must learn to set boundaries for yourself, especially if your work from home as we do.

8. What drives you and inspires you?

A. Experiencing our dream come true. Seeing our business grow and succeed, seeing the people in our business grow and thrive, and importantly seeing our client’s businesses grow and succeed.

9. Where and when do you have your best ideas?

A. In the early mornings when I do my daily exercise and when I have brainstorming sessions with my Business Partner.

10. Where and how do you market/advertise your business for sales leads?

A. Word of mouth from happy clients and suppliers, strategic partnerships, networking and social media.

11. What is next for your business?

A. To expand our services beyond the current niche market and to start a Training Academy for medical practice staff.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

A. Know and understand your ‘WHY’ for starting your business. Just do it, take that leap of faith, you are much stronger and more resilient than you think you are. Believe in yourself and your ability. Don’t let someone else steal your dream. Choose the right business partner/s, hire the best in the industry to work for you and with you, and align your business with the right partnerships. Have solid values and principles in place for your business and hold each other accountable
