#WIB – Q&A With Megan & Stacey Owners Of Bundle Up: The Subscription Box Company

1. Can you please tell us more about your business?

Bundle Up: The Subscription Box Company

Bundle Up is South Africa’s premier one-of-a-kind lifecycle subscription boxing service built with the intention to eliminate stress, and provide you with new, unique and exciting products, monthly at your convenience.

Our boxes were initially created to help parents and caregivers with the active development of their child’s seven sensory systems through customised boxes comprising specifically designed activities and crafted items. We have since evolved into offering more than just “one-off” purchased packages and given the demand, now offers a “subscription service” service delivering these customised boxes on repeat at the appropriate age milestones to the recipient.

This subscription service also provides toddler boxes and is currently creating fitness and pet subscription boxes and the eagerly awaited maternity box. Our baby bundle series was created for the first year of your child’s life. They are designed to eliminate stress and conveniently provide the tools you require to allow your child the opportunity to reach their personal goals.

2. When, how and why did you start your business?

Bundle Up

Stacey and Megan are best friends and have known each other since they were 6. They came up with the idea of helping parents educate their children and meet their monthly milestones through a subscription box. With Stacey’s background in education and early childhood development, as well as being a mom herself and Megan’s entrepreneurial brain and marketing background, Bundle Up was born in March 2021. We spent six months researching, creating one-of-a-kind products, and developing a programme for moms/caregivers to do with their little ones in their homes. We launched in September 2021.

Bundle Media:

Through creating our content for Bundle Up, we were approached by multiple individuals to run their company’s social media platforms. This spurred the beginning of our second company together.

3. What is your role in the business?

Megan and Stacey equally handle all aspects of the business as there are currently no other employees.

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

Megan:

Undergrad- BCom Marketing and Management Science (IMM Graduate School)

Honours- BCom Honours in strategic brand Management (VEGA)

Stacey:

BEd Early Childhood Development (University of Pretoria)

5. How did you finance your business?

We were determined that this was something we wanted to do for ourselves; therefore, funding it between the two of us made the whole process a lot longer but so much more worth it.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists.

Organised chaos is one way to describe it. Starting work early and finishing late at night. We also work weekends and public holidays.

7. How do you balance your home life and your work life?

It is incredibly challenging as it is just the two of us juggling both businesses. Our family and friends have been very supportive and patient with us while we pursue and build the foundation of our companies. However, we plan on hiring people to help us with both companies and therefore have more time for ourselves and, most importantly, our family and friends.

8. What drives you and inspires you?

We have always wanted to work for ourselves and build a company that resembles the essence of who we are and built on the foundation of our hard work. We want to create a legacy that we can be proud of.

9. Where and when do you have your best ideas?

In each other’s company, normally over a cup of coffee.

10. Where and how do you market/advertise your business for sales leads?

Through social media platforms, strategic partnerships, influencers, and word of mouth.

11. What is next for your business?

Bundle Up

We are building Bundle Up to be South Africa’s one-of-a-kind subscription service. With this in mind, we have many exciting new subscriptions launching early next year.

Bundle Media

Now that we have established ourselves in the industry, we are planning on expanding our service offerings as well as expanding our company by hiring young, talented South Africans. We are also looking at creating an internship programme to help individuals gain experience.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

You can never stop working as an entrepreneur; there is always something to do. You make a lot of sacrifices as an entrepreneur, but they are worth it in the long run. So don’t give up and believe in yourself and your business.
